Yes the thing is to is that Catch Wrestling is ment not to hook, a hook is specific and different from a submission. HOOKS basically make an opponent not step back on the mat for several weeks, months, or not at all again. Im a huge BJJ fan but these moves in Catch have their place especially on the street.

It's not stupid, there's many leg locks and knee bars that you really don't feel pain until it's too late and that person's body is physically damaged and need to have knee or ankle surgury. Having a white belt who knows a leg lock and a white belt who doesn't is dangerous, because like I said, it won't hurt till it's too late, and the white belt that doesn't know that move is not gonna tap out cause he won't know he's in a lock since there's no pain, then when there IS pain, it's serious.

There are some contest that allows shin locks and cranks. I have never seen in person or tv someone finishing anyone with it. But its a cool move. I always tell myself I'm going to do it in my next class but then forget. Lol

@403766 if you mean setting up how to get to a submission, yes he is did that too. Tony in a very detailed manner how to get the submission and how to set it up

@legendof You wouldn't even need to pass because the fight would be done. I use this all the time, especially when someone tries butterfly guard. When you apply this properly the pain is so bad they don't want to counter they just tap.

i thinks its stupid in bjj if ur not allowed to do leg locks if ur a white belt i think u got to use what works for u and not fight somebody else fight thats jus my opinion u cant limit ur self to one style

@hedges1 In most good BJJ schools anyone below purple belt- and often brown belt- is not usually allowed to use tendon locks on the legs. This is because lack of experience by the person using them can very easily lead to long term damage, as can the naivety of the person being locked if he taps too late. It's a safety concern, and a legitimate one. A tear in ligaments in either the ankle or knee can have long term, even permanent consequences.

I am a BJJ Blue Belt, but I LOVE catch wrestling. I would love to use this as a pass for Gi or No Gi. Wow, my eyes have been opened!
